The Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth & Families held their annual Spring Gala on Saturday, May 5th at Meadowbrook Country Club. The theme this year was “A Night of Hollywood Glamour” and was a fun-filled evening with emcee Eli Zaret, cocktails, dinner, an auction, and entertainment from NUCLASSICA.
The event raised over $40,000 to enable FFHFYF to continue to support programs and organizations that benefit children, youth and families in the Farmington and Farmington Hills community. Our special appeal this year was for the Bountiful Backpack Program which is a partnership between FFHFYF, Farmington Public Schools and the community at large to provide much needed food over the weekend and summer for elementary students who might otherwise go hungry and thanks to the generosity of our donors, we raised $10,000 for the program.
One of the highlights of our annual gala is honoring an individual from the community who has made a significant contribution to the communities of Farmington and Farmington Hills with the Riley Award for Altruism. This year our honouree was Paul Blizman.
Paul was raised in Wyandotte and Grosse Ile and moved to Farmington Hills in 1974 with his wife and daughter. Since then he has been actively involved in many aspects of the local community including the Farmington Hills Energy Commission, the Farmington Hills Historic District Commission and the Farmington Hills Planning Commission. Paul was a board member of the Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth & Families from 2000 to 2011 and served as President from 2006-2009. During his time on the board Paul was instrumental in setting up our endowment fund with the Community Foundation of South East Michigan. Paul’s continued support in the local community makes him a very worthy recipient of this award.
